Receiving 93 point from James Suckling, the 2017 Otoño Cabernet Sauvignon is opaque, clear, dark purple with an effusive nose of black fruits (black currant, huckleberry, blackberry) with aromas of warm toast, brambles, roasting coffee beans, and hints of suede. Smooth, medium-full texture with bright acidity and a wonderfully even mouth feel that amplifies with time. Flavors of blackberry compote, black tea, toasted walnuts are followed by a surprising hint of pomegranate. A clean, sexy, and lingering finish echoes black fruits and dark chocolate.
Record-breaking winter rainfall kicked off the season, replenishing soils and ponds. A pleasant spring brought bud break at the normal time, and we welcomed small berries with excellent color. A hot summer came to a peak on Labor Day weekend but our grapes fared well, and once cooler weather arrived, our red varietals were able to mature at a gradual pace. This wine celebrates Cabernet Blocks 18 (Clone #4) and 9 (Clone #7), which were planted in the 1990s and beautifully express our terroir.
87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot
